A stippled sun ripples where

your shoulder melts into arm

like braids of liquid glue,

thews vacuum-sealed

like a packaged mackerel

gasping under Saran,

dime eyes begging to be unwrapped.

Settled across your swooning clavicle,

the red-clay dust

kicked into desert dusk’s

heady purple air

by the labored breath of a wild black dog

twitching with primeval need

waiting for the marmot to breach.
